is massachusetts senator, john kerry. if somehow susan rice is disqualified from becoming secretary of state and president obama then picks john kerry instead, guess what happens in the united states senate? massachusetts suddenly has an open u.s. senate seat as well as a certain republican senator from that state who is basically just sitting around doing nothing since he just lost his re-election effort. i know this sounds crazy. i'm fully aware of that fact. that's kind of part of the point. honestly, it is getting harder and harder to find a rational explanation forle all of this republican hand ringing. it has been been going on. there are legitimate questions to ask about what happened during that attack on our consulate in libya. those questions deserve answers. they are being investigated. there also may be legitimate questions to ask about susan rice as a potential secretary of state. that's not what's going on. there is this add dimension to what's going on right now that is really strange. >> i just believe that she has actually disqualified herself to be secretary of state. if th

question if he were to name john kerry, for example, the senator from massachusetts as his secretary of state, he would be confirmed presumably, would that open the door for a republican to be the next senator though from massachusetts? i'm speaking about the current senator, the outgoing senator scott brown who's still pretty popular there. >> he is popular. that's a great point. i know he was just defeated, but he is a formidable political talent. i honestly have no idea if that's playing a role in these deliberations. clearly john kerry is qualified to be the secretary of state as well. my best guess is it's exactly what ari was saying which is the president is asking who is most in sync with my foreign policy? ambassador rice is someone who helped form late the obama foreign policy. i think senator kerry would too. democrats are now in a position where we have an embarrassment of riches. i really hope they don't start worrying about this or that political matter. in democrats can't win elections in massachusetts, there's something fundamentally wrong with what we're doing. >> he

on a sunday show to get the secretary of state job. she says she would much prefer senator john kerry for that job. because, yeah, he's never been a politician. or presumably, she's still okay with the current secretary of state, hillary clinton. it's not like she's ever run for anything. you know, obviously she's never been on a sunday show. if she had been on a sunday show, she'd ever gone on a sunday show, that obviously would have disqualified her from becoming secretary of state. that would show her to be behaving in a political fashion. everybody knows the secretary of state cannot do anything political. seriously? there is a mismatch between the seriousness of the things that we actually need to get done as a nation and the quality of the system in washington that is the means by which we must get those things done. syria is not our war, and syria is not going to be our war. but there are tens of thousands of people dead there already. and the regime there appears to have just turned off the lights, pulled the plug, disconnected that country entirely from the eyes of the world.
